Karina’s Nomination

“My 92-year-old mom was admitted to the hospital after breaking her ankle in three places. Mom had suffered a stroke 12 years ago which had left her paralyzed on her left side.
Karina was diligent in giving my mom excellent medical care. She was very careful to tell me every pill my mom was getting. One of the pills was not to be taken with another morning med. I know because I am her caregiver. Karina took the time to contact pharmacy and resolve the confusion. She also requested pharmacy send the other pill at another time or send the instructions to hold it, so the nurses who followed her would know.
Karina was very attentive to each detail. She stayed over one morning because she wanted to make sure mom’s bed was dry and her clothes and body were clean. She was constantly helping to make sure my mom did not get bed sores or added problems from her stay. Karina gave excellent care in every respect.
In addition to providing excellent medical care, she was so kind to engage with my mom and recognize her as a person. She was cheerful and talked to my mom. It was common for people to talk over her and not to her.
She made mom feel special and that things were going to be okay. She brightened mom’s day when she came in. My mom is hard of hearing so communicating with her is not always easy. I appreciated Karina taking the time to make mom feel like she was the most special person in the world, which she is! “
