Congratulations to April Dillon, a phlebotomist on CTSU, for being presented with the BEE Award. April was nominated by a patient’s mother. Read her nomination below:

April’s Nomination

“After being in CCU for 6 days, my daughter was transferred to a stepdown unit. I requested that my daughter have a shower, and I went out to the nurses’ station and asked about PT and a shower. The staff sitting at the nurses’ station said if they could find the staff to do it, it would happen. I was very disappointed in that response.

After I returned to my daughter’s room, a female staff member entered the room and said that she liked to stay busy, and she was free. Her name was April. She is the phlebotomist for the floor. She took my daughter for a walk around the floor, and then she collected what she needed for the shower. April covered my daughter’s midline IVs carefully, so as not to get them wet. She got my daughter in the shower and then changed all of her linen. She helped my daughter get dressed and got her hooked back up to all of her monitors.

April needs to be recognized for going above and beyond when it felt like no one else wanted to help or do this job. She is an asset to Parkwest and to this unit. She possesses many qualities that a lot of RNs don’t in this day. She wants to go to school for her RN but now has a family. I was so very impressed by her care, knowledge, compassion and commitment to the patients.”
