A Kingsport, Tennessee native, Dr. Kerns, received his medical degree from East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee and was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He completed an internship, his residency and fellowship at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky where he was chief medical resident.
