As emails pile up throughout the day and email chains become longer, it can be difficult to clarify what action is needed and how to follow up accordingly. One feature that can help in Outlook with this issue is the @mentions. The @mentions feature can capture someone’s attention and alert them to questions that are directed toward their expertise. Using this can save time and allow for more focused messaging.
To mention someone in an email or meeting invite:
- Type the @ symbol followed by the individual’s name.
- This will add their name to the “To” line and add the @ symbol next to their message in the Inbox as pictured below.
The @mention can also be edited. Instead of @Delaney, Joshua you can change it to @Joshua.
If you would like to filter your inbox to see if any messages have mentioned you, follow these steps:
- At the upper right-hand corner of the message list, select the Filter down arrow.
- Then, in the Filter section, select Mentioned Mail.
3. Any email that mentions you specifically will show the @ symbol on the right-hand side of the email.
Next time you have a question for someone or are needing their assistance, try out the @mentions feature in Outlook and improve your email communication!
