“WeCare” for Our Patients and Employees

There are many reasons that I’m proud to be CEO of Covenant Health, and high on my list is WeCare, our employee giving program, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. During a three-month campaign, all employees are invited to support WeCare through personal contributions and participation in fund raising events at Covenant Health facilities.

WeCare gives employees a unique opportunity to support Covenant Health in ways that are meaningful to them. For example, employees can designate their contributions among about 70 WeCare “funds” that range from scholarship programs for clinical education to supporting our medical outreach programs in their communities.

WeCare is best known for providing financial assistance to patients and to our Covenant Health employee family. Contributions can be used to help patients who may need help paying for medications or personal items. Or they may be designated for an employee assistance fund to help colleagues facing unexpected personal or family expenses.

In 2017, WeCare provided over $317,000 to patients and employees to help with utilities, housing, transportation, medical costs, food and family funeral expenses. Employees who have received help from WeCare often say how much the support means to them. They say they are proud to be part of an organization where employees reach out to help one another. I share that pride.

Our 2018 campaign raised $577,925, exceeding our goal by about $50,000. Thanks to employees’ generosity, WeCare will support many worthy initiatives throughout Covenant Health, and will have the resources to continue helping patients and colleagues with financial needs.
