It’s Staff Feature Friday! Let’s get to know more about one of our volunteers, Shari!
Name: Shari Lyons
Title: Surgery Waiting Volunteer
How long have you worked at Parkwest? 8 years
Where are you from? Knoxville
Why do you love your job? I see it as a ministry to people in a stressful situation (having a loved one in surgery). We are keeping them informed of their patient’s progress before, during, and after surgery. Hopefully relieving them of the additional anxiety of not knowing or understanding the process.
What are you thankful for? My family. My husband and I are blessed to have all four of our parents living and enjoying our children and grandchildren. Not many couples our age celebrate four generations.
What is your favorite Thanksgiving tradition? We always travel to Memphis and celebrate with John’s very large extended family. It’s happy chaos with lots of good food.
Where would we find you the day after Thanksgiving – Black Friday shopping or watching football? Neither. I’m either still visiting with family or traveling. We put up our Christmas tree when we get home.
What is your favorite Thanksgiving dish? My husband’s smoked turkey. He’s a “green egg” expert. Also, I better not show up in Memphis without “Aunt Shari’s sugar cookies”!!
What do you like to do when you aren’t working? I enjoy reading and am currently in a book club. John and I really like hiking and traveling. Keeping up with three grandchildren is lots of fun too.
