Cutting-Edge Mammography Services

Early detection is crucial when it comes to breast cancer.

At Covenant Health Roane, we offer state of the art 3D mammography services at our conveniently located Harriman, TN facility, so you won’t have to travel far from home to get the best in women’s healthcare services.

3D mammography (also known as tomosynthesis) is an imaging process that allows a radiologist to see around and between breast tissue (including dense breast tissue) to better detect smaller cancers.

This service is able to enhance detection of breast cancers earlier, increasing your chances of a more positive prognosis if any issues are present.

Frequently Asked Questions about 3D Mammography at Covenant Health Roane

If you’re interested in our 3D mammography services at Covenant Health Roane, you may have questions about what this service entails, and who it’s right for. That’s why we’ve collected a series of frequently asked questions, to help Tennessee women like you decide if our 3D mammography services are right for you.

Is 3D Mammography as Safe as Traditional Mammography?

3D mammography is absolutely as safe as traditional mammography. The radiation exposure of 3D mammography is equivalent to that of traditional mammography, while providing a higher level of quality imaging.

Can 3D Mammography Be Used for Women with Dense Breast Tissue?

Yes. In fact, 3D mammography may be preferable for women with dense breast tissue.

In addition, women with dense breasts are four to six times more likely to develop breast cancer. But the limitations of traditional mammography can make early detection of cancer in dense breast tissue more difficult.

With 3D mammography, patients with all breast types can receive clearer, more defined images. These clearer images may help detect cancer earlier than with traditional mammography.

How do I Prepare for My 3D Mammogram at Covenant Health Roane?

As with a traditional mammogram, our 3D mammography patients are asked not to wear deodorant or jewelry when preparing for their 3D mammography appointment.

The positioning of your breasts during your 3D mammogram is the same as a traditional mammogram. The only difference between the two methods relates to the quality of the finished images.

Is My 3D Mammography at Covenant Health Roane Covered by Insurance?

Currently, 3D mammography is covered by Medicare and many other insurance providers and plans.

To ensure your 3D mammogram at Covenant Health Roane is covered by your insurance plan, you should check with your insurance provider.

If insurance coverage is not available to you for this service, the upfront cost is $80 and split as two separate fees—$35 from the breast center and $45 from radiology.
