Peninsula Hosts 18th Annual Ethics Conference

Peninsula, along with the National Association of Social Workers, will host its 18th Annual Ethics Conference on Friday, Nov. 9, from 1-4 p.m.

The title of this year’s ethics conference is “Ethical and Affirming Social Work Practice with the LGBTQIAP Community and Their Family Members.” The presenter is Shannon Brown, LCSW, the founder of Psychotherapy and Forensic Services, LLC, and the founder of Foothills LGBT Community Center in Maryville, Tennessee.

Ethics Conference Topic

Learning how to deliver ethical, evidence-based social work practice is imperative for assisting clients who identify as LGBTQIAP. Ethical practice approaches allow practitioners to foster growth in a manner that is safe for vulnerable clients who have experienced oppression, discrimination, violence, suicide, isolation, and rejection.

Brown will help attendees increase understanding of ethical clinical practices regarding therapeutic approaches, controversial vs. ethically appropriate terminology, and ethically appropriate clinical recommendations and referrals.

Educational Objectives

  • Identify real ethical dilemmas social workers have experienced with clients.
  • Identify ways to effectively navigate ethical dilemmas when they arise.
  • Management of ethical dilemmas through professional resources.
