Non-nursing Opportunities at Parkwest Medical Center

- Cardiac Telemetry Specialist: Coordinates continuous cardiac and related monitoring and communication functions for the centralized telemetry control unit.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)/Patient Care Assistant (PCA): Functions as a direct patient caregiver performing tasks to assist registered nurses. Performs hands-on care, assistance with ADL’s and specified technical tasks for a group of patients under the supervision of the Team Leader.
- Environmental Services/Housekeeper: Clean and sanitize rooms and furnishing following established policies, procedures, and schedules to maintain high standards of cleanliness and sanitation throughout the hospital and related buildings. Also responsible for stocking supplies in restrooms, appropriate hospital and related building rooms.
- ER Techs: Functions as a specialized direct patient caregiver in the Emergency Department, performing tasks to assist nurses and providers. Performs hands-on care, specified technical tasks, and coordinates communications on the unit.
- Health Unit Coordinator/Unit Secretary: Provides clerical and secretarial services to the nursing unit.
- Lab:
- Lab Assistant–An employee in this position must be able to perform in the following areas: collection and proper handling of venous and capillary blood specimens for both in and out patients, responsibility for the safety and comfort of customers, clerical/computer duties, and courier responsibilities as required for the position.
- Medical Technologist-The Medical Technologist performs high complexity, routine and specialized clinical Lab tests for use in diagnosis and treatment of patients by physicians. The Medical Technologist is expected to use independent judgment to give the physician information to diagnose and treat illness. In addition, the MT is expected to consult with the physician about test results as needed.
- Maintenance: Under limited supervision, performs facility maintenance and repair duties within a specialty area as required. Assists in other areas of maintenance as needed.
- Materials Management: Works under the general supervision of the Manager of Materials Distribution to provide receiving and warehousing function. Uses the Materials Management Information System to accomplish assigned tasks. Performs all duties necessary to ensure that the warehousing needs of the hospital are met in a timely and high quality manner.
- Therapy:
- Occupational Therapy: Under general supervision, plans, evaluates and implements treatment programs for occupational therapy
patients. Modifies treatment plans in accordance with patient progress. - Physical Therapy: Under general supervision, plans, evaluates and implements treatment programs for physical therapy patients. Modifies treatment plans in accordance with patient progress.
- Speech Therapy: Under general direction, plans, evaluates and implements treatment programs for speech therapy patients. While maintaining a patient load, assumes additional responsibility of program development, staff training and orientation, and consultation in area of expertise for fellow staff members.
- Occupational Therapy: Under general supervision, plans, evaluates and implements treatment programs for occupational therapy
- Patient Transporter: Transportation of hospital patients and supplementary items. Performs defined safety protocols. Provides support assistance/activities as needed.
- Pharmacy:
- Pharmacy Tech: Under the direct supervision of the pharmacist, performs functions pertaining to the dispensing of medications. Technical functions are expanded to include IV process proficiency, problem solving skills and quality improvement involvement. Leadership skills are required to include demonstrated written and verbal communication that supports the overall objectives of the department.
- Pharmacist: Provide prescribed pharmaceuticals, medications, information and clinical monitoring for adequate patient care according to professional standards and practices.
- Radiology: Performs routine and difficult imaging procedures and support activities. Assists in other areas of Imaging Services.
- Registered Respiratory Therapists: Provides care to patients with respiratory insufficiency and related complications. Functions as part of the direct patient team to provide overall quality care and serves as a resource and specialist to patients, all patient care givers and physicians. May be required to exercise clinical judgment under the order of a licensed physician.
- Registration: Coordinates the centralized scheduling of all outpatient diagnostic and surgical procedures. Accurate collection and data entry of the required financial and demographic information for all patients registered to our facility. Ensuring verification of benefits and pre-certification requirements are met prior to scheduled appointment/admission. Follow up as necessary on all urgent or unscheduled registrations for consistency in the process. Establishes controls so unscheduled patients understand and receive accurate information on their patient liability.
- Sleep Center:
- Neuro Technologist-Non Certified: The Intra-operative Monitoring Technologist performs advanced neurological testing in both surgical and laboratory settings. Performs with little supervision. Assists in the training and supervision of employees. Assists in tasks related to department operations. Performs routine maintenance and repairs on complex electronic recorders.
- Medical Assistant: This position coordinates and performs both clerical and clinical activities and functions of the Neurodiagnostics
Sleep Disorders Center. - Neurodiagnostic Technologist: The Neurophysiology Technician performs at least one modality in neurological testing such as EEGs, Evoked
Potential Studies, Transcranial Doppler Ultrasonography and/or Nerve Conduction Studies in many patient areas.
Assists in tasks related to department operations.
- Surgical Services:
- Certified Endoscopy Technologist: Facilitates patient care by assisting physicians and nursing staff before, during, and after endoscopic procedures. Competently performs, with assistance, the majority of assigned cases in a given service/shift; may participate in difficult or complicated cases with assistance; competently performs endoscope re-processing.
- Certified Surgical Technologist: Facilitates patient care by assisting physicians and nursing staff before, during and after surgical procedures by creating and maintaining a sterile field and providing the instruments and supplies required by the surgeons in a sterile manner according to the established plan of patient care.
- Perioperative Technician: Provide supportive para-nursing & housekeeping functions in the Operating Room, PACU, & PHA.
- Sterile Processing Technician: Under the direction of department leadership, responsible for the proper decontamination, inspection, assembly, and high level disinfection and sterilization of surgical instruments. Operates processing equipment. Requires proficiency in instrument decontamination and assembly and knowledge of the sterilization methods available and which method is appropriate in correlation with the devices that are to be processed.
