This afternoon Parkwest Medical Center presented its first BEE award to a deserving employee, Micki Smith in the GI Lab.

Micki, department assistant for the GI team, was nominated by her department manager, Kathy Cook for extraordinary service she provided to a patient.

Micki’s Nomination

On 1/23/19 a patient in the GI lab heard an overhead page looking for the driver of a truck parked in Lot A. The patient came through the ER and was admitted to the hospital. The patient’s girlfriend was at work and the patient was very worried about his truck.

The patient gave Micki the keys to his truck and Micki went to valet to get their assistance with moving the truck. Turns out the truck was in a construction zone. When they went to move the truck, the battery was dead. Micki stayed with the valet to be sure the truck was taken care of. She received the tag and brought it back to the patient and gave him a detailed description of where his truck was now parked and how to retrieve his truck on discharge. Micki took time away from a very busy time in our department and put her work aside to relieve the patient’s anxiety over his truck.

The patient expressed his thanks many times, and said, “people like Micki make Parkwest a great hospital.” This is the type of care Micki gives each and every patient in this department, but in this case she really went above and beyond.

More About the BEE Award

Parkwest implemented The BEE (Being Exceptional Every day) Award to recognize employees who aren’t RNs and LPNs (they can be nominated for The DAISY Award). A DAISY can’t survive without a BEE and a BEE can’t survive without a DAISY!

GI Manager Kathy Cook nominated employee Micki Smith for first BEE award.
