In It to Win It – A Magical Evening of Trivia Games and Fun

Are you “top-notch” at trivia? A blue-ribbon Bingo player? Marvelous at musical knowledge or stellar at Secret City history? You won’t want to miss the opportunity to test your skills at “In It to Win It,” a trivia game night designed to delight and entertain while raising funds for Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

In It to Win It will be held Saturday, April 14, from 6-10 p.m. at Calhoun’s Oak Ridge, 100 Melton Lake Peninsula. The evening will feature three trivia games:

• Extreme Music Bingo – a bingo game with a musical twist
• Terrific Trivia – share your knowledge about Methodist Medical Center and the Secret City
• Trivia Feud – tables go “head to head” in survey challenges

The event is sponsored by Methodist Medical Center Foundation and Covenant Health. Proceeds will benefit the Hospitality Houses and the chaplaincy program of Methodist Medical Center.

            “We’ll be celebrating Methodist Medical Center’s 75^th anniversary and the important work the hospital accomplishes every day in our community,” said Jen Sheehan, director of development in Covenant Health’s Office of Philanthropy. “’In It to Win It’ will have a gorgeous new venue and delicious food and drinks, while capturing the magic of the trivia craze.” Additional magic performed by Michael Messing and Tom Vorjohan will complement the games.

Hospitality Houses

The Hospitality Houses provide free lodging for patients and families traveling to Methodist Medical Center for treatment. The three houses each include four fully furnished apartments with private bedrooms, bathrooms and living rooms. There is a fully stocked community kitchen, laundry room and dining area in each house. 

            “In the last four years we have served 1,058 guest and provided 6,667 nights of stay. Our guests during that time were from 40 different Tennessee counties and 27 states,” said Kim Maes, manager of cancer support services and coordinator of the Hospitality Houses.

“We exist to take care of our friends and neighbors here in East Tennessee and around the country in what is often the most difficult time of their lives. The Hospitality Houses are 100 percent funded by donations, which go directly toward supporting patients and families in need.”

Chaplaincy Program

The chaplaincy program at Methodist provides pastoral care and spiritual resources to patients, visitors and staff, including patient and family visitation/support, Code Blue response and end-of-life counseling. The program also provides grief counseling, employee support and counseling, administers the MMC Jack Sills Chaplain’s Benevolence and Employee Assistance Fund (WeCare), and offers Sunday worship services.

“Last year the chaplaincy program interacted with over 6,500 patients and families and received over 400 referrals from across the hospital. Additionally, through the Chaplain’s benevolence fund we assisted 214 individuals – employees and patients – with more than $23,800 in the form of housing, transportation, funeral expense, utilities, food, clothing and medications,” said Mary Lou Hammer, chaplain/coordinator.

            “Our goals are to implement a volunteer chaplaincy program and training, expand pastoral care coverage to include off-shifts and weekends, purchase spiritual communication boards, and begin an annual memorial service.”
