Covenant Health Names New Vice President of Revenue Cycle

Covenant Health is pleased to announce that Rick Carringer has been promoted to vice president of revenue cycle for the health system. He will succeed Kevin Brown, the current vice president of revenue cycle, who is retiring at the end of March. In his new role, Carringer will be responsible for the health system’s patient accounting, revenue cycle and revenue integrity from within the Central Business Office. He will also oversee patient registration in coordination with each of Covenant Health’s member hospitals.

Since 2014 he has served as the chief financial officer at two Covenant Health hospitals, Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge and Roane Medical Center. During his eight years at the facilities, Carringer has directed financial operations of the hospitals, provided financial analysis supporting the health system’s tele-ICU initiative and other projects, and facilitated a redesign of the registration and patient flow process during the COVID-19 pandemic. He has been with Covenant Health since 2006 and has previously served as the vice president of finance and support services at LeConte Medical Center, vice president of finance at Fort Sanders Sevier Medical Center and controller at Methodist Medical Center.

“Rick brings a vast level of knowledge of our revenue cycle and financial expertise to this role. He will provide the health system with continued strong leadership of our revenue cycle,” said John Geppi, executive vice president and chief financial officer for Covenant Health.

Carringer came to Covenant Health in 2006 from Baptist Health System of East Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee, where he served as controller of Baptist Hospital of East Tennessee. In that role, he managed the daily cash flow, refined contractual model and reimbursement analyses, and supervised the accounting, accounts payable and payroll departments.

He also served as an assistant controller, budget and reimbursement manager, funds distribution manager, and a staff accountant for Baptist Health System. He has been an adjunct professor of accounting at Roane State Community College in Oak Ridge and Pellissippi State Community College in Knoxville.

Carringer received his master of accountancy from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he also received his bachelor’s degree in accounting. He is a licensed certified public accountant and is a member of the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants.
