Knoxville, Tenn. – March 2021 – Covenant Health and Covenant Medical Group have earned 2020 Digital Health Most Wired recognitions from the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME).
The Digital Health Most Wired program recognizes health care organizations that have elevated care for their communities by utilizing information technology. An annual survey is conducted to identify, recognize and certify the adoption, implementation and use of information technology by healthcare providers at all stages of development, from early initiatives to industry-leading. Each award recipient receives a detailed scoring report that covers eight areas: infrastructure; security; business/disaster recovery; administrative/supply chain; analytics/data management; interoperability/population health; patient engagement; and clinical quality/safety. The Most Wired designation is endorsed by the Malcolm Baldrige Foundation as the top IT performance excellence and benchmark recognition program.
Covenant Health received a Level 8 Acute designation. Covenant Medical Group, the health system’s physician practice organization, received a Level 7 Ambulatory designation. Levels 7 and 8 recognitions are awarded to health organizations that have deployed technologies and strategies for data analysis and are achieving meaningful clinical and efficiency outcomes, along with implementing advanced technologies such as telehealth services to expand access to care.
“I am honored that Covenant Health is receiving recognition for the hard work and investments made by so many people across many operational areas during such a challenging year,” said Mike Ward, senior vice president and chief information officer for Covenant Health. “We are excited to see how recent investments and accomplishments will be the springboard for new technologies and new processes as we work to improve the health of our patients across the communities we serve.”
“Digital technology has been a driver of innovation in healthcare for many years now, but never to the degree that we saw in 2020 with the pandemic,” said CHIME President and CEO Russell P. Branzell. “The Digital Health Most Wired program underscores why healthcare organizations keep pushing themselves to be digital leaders and shows what amazing feats they can achieve. This certification recognizes their exemplary performance in 2020.”
As Covenant Health continues to implement and use new technology, leaders recognize the importance of IT infrastructure.
“Covenant Health leadership sets the expectation and pace, and the employees of Covenant Health deserve the recognition for making IT happen,” said Ward. “This recognition is confirmation of the significant efforts and investments made by IT staff.”
More than 30,000 organizations submitted surveys for the Digital Health Most Wired recognition. Covenant Health was one of 426 acute care organizations to receive a Most Wired designation and Covenant Medical Group was one of 272 ambulatory services to be recognized. Both organizations have received Most Wired designations in previous years.
