Covenant Health and Covenant Medical Group Receive National Recognition for IT Achievements

Knoxville, Tenn. – November 2022 – Covenant Health and Covenant Medical Group have earned 2022 Digital Health Most Wired recognitions from the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME). Covenant Health received a Level 8 Acute designation. Covenant Medical Group, the health system’s physician practice organization, received a Level 8 Ambulatory designation.

This year’s Acute recognition is the 18th time Covenant Health has received a Most Wired designation since the program initially began. Covenant Medical Group also has received high-level recognitions since the Ambulatory category was established in 2019.

The Digital Health Most Wired program aims to elevate the health and care of communities by using information technology. An annual survey assessed the adoption, integration and impact of technologies in health care organizations from early stages of development to industry-leading best practices, using 10 levels of designation. More than 38,000 organizations were surveyed in categories like analytics and data management, population health, infrastructure and patient engagement.

Level 8 is awarded to health organizations that have deployed technologies and strategies for data analysis and are achieving meaningful clinical and efficiency outcomes. These organizations are adapting more advanced technologies, such as telehealth services, to expand access to care.

“Covenant Health is honored to have achieved a Most Wired recognition for the last 18 years. We are especially proud to be the first organization in Tennessee to achieve two Level 8 designations recognizing our acute-care hospitals and ambulatory practices,” said Mike Ward, senior vice president and chief information officer of Covenant Health. “Our physicians, employees, management and executives of Covenant Health have consistently stepped up to meet the higher technical and operational standards necessary to attain recognition in the higher levels of performance.”

Each award recipient receives a detailed scoring report that covers eight segments: infrastructure, security, business/disaster recovery, administrative/supply chain, analytics/data management, interoperability/population health, patient engagement and clinical quality/safety.

“We are proud to honor Covenant Health and Covenant Medical Group’s exceptional dedication to excellence in digital health,” said CHIME President and CEO Russell P. Branzell. “Your pioneering performances in the industry inspires other organizations by example. Patients in communities around the world receive better care when you drive change through digital transformation, as you have proven through your success in this rigorous program.”

As Covenant Health continues to implement and adapt to new technology, health system leaders recognize the amount of work that goes into the technological infrastructure.

“This recognition also reflects past and continuing commitments Covenant Health is making to the East Tennessee region and our patients as we strive for better outcomes through excellence in innovation,” Ward said.
