Knoxville, Tenn. – March 2021 – Covenant Health and Covenant Medical Group have earned 2020 Digital Health Most Wired recognitions from the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME). Covenant Health received the Level 8 Acute designation. Covenant Medical Group, the health system’s physician practice organization, received the Level 7 Ambulatory designation.

Levels 7 and 8 recognitions are awarded to health organizations that have deployed technologies and strategies for data analysis and are achieving meaningful clinical and efficiency outcomes. These organizations are adapting more advanced technologies, such as telehealth services, to expand access to care.

“I am proud to be a part of healthcare at such a critical time of health crisis, and am honored that Covenant Health is receiving recognition for the hard work and investments made by so many people across many operational areas during such a challenging year,” said Mike Ward, senior vice president and chief information officer for Covenant Health. “We are excited to see how recent investments and accomplishments will be the springboard for new technologies and new processes as we work hard to improve the health of our patients across the communities that we are honored to serve.”

The “Digital Health Most Wired” program aims to elevate the health and care of communities by utilizing information technology. An annual survey is conducted to identify, recognize and certify the adoption, implementation and use of information technology by healthcare providers at all stages of development, from early development to industry leading. Each award recipient receives a detailed scoring report that covers eight segments: infrastructure; security; business/disaster recovery; administrative/supply chain; analytics/data management; interoperability/population health; patient engagement; and clinical quality/safety.

“Digital technology has been a driver of innovation in healthcare for many years now, but never to the degree that we saw in 2020 with the pandemic,” said CHIME President and CEO Russell P. Branzell. “The Digital Health Most Wired program underscores why healthcare organizations keep pushing themselves to be digital leaders and shows what amazing feats they can achieve. This certification recognizes their exemplary performance in 2020.”

As Covenant Health continues to implement and adapt to new technology, leadership recognizes the amount of work that goes into the technological infrastructure.

“While Covenant Health leadership sets the expectation and pace, the employees of Covenant Health deserve the recognition for making IT happen,” said Ward. “This recognition is confirmation of the significant efforts and investments made by IT staff.”

There were 30,091 organizations to submit surveys for the “Digital Health Most Wired” recognition. Covenant Health and Covenant Medical Group were two of the chosen ones to receive recognition in 2020. Covenant Health was one of 426 acute care organizations to receive the award, and Covenant Medical Group was one of 272 ambulatory services to receive it. Both organizations have received Most Wired designations in previous years.
