Count on Covenant Health

You may have seen recent announcements about the closing of Physicians Regional Medical Center in Knoxville and Lakeway Regional Hospital in Morristown, effective December 28, 2018. This is a significant transition that affects not only the patients of these facilities, but also their physicians and the hospitals’ employees.

Healthcare is indeed in transition in our state, and you may have questions about how these  closures will affect Covenant Health. There is one statement that I can say to you with confidence:

You can count on Covenant Health.

We are the region’s largest employer, with more than 10,000 employees, physicians and volunteers, and we care for more than a million patients and families each year. We are not-for-profit, locally owned and headquartered in Knoxville – and we intend to stay that way.

Covenant Health includes hospitals, specialized inpatient and outpatient programs, and physician offices. More than 1,500 physicians are affiliated with our health system, offering care in a variety of medical specialties. We have the region’s only comprehensive stroke and rehabilitation center and the only stroke hospital network. We are committed to making quality healthcare accessible for people throughout our region.

Covenant Health has a long history of service. Our health system recently celebrated its 20th anniversary and our downtown Knoxville hospital, Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, will celebrate its 100th anniversary next year. Both Fort Sanders Regional and Parkwest Medical Center have expansion programs in the works to meet the future needs of our communities.

From a financial perspective, Covenant Health is the strongest healthcare system in our region. Fitch Ratings, a global research organization, recently awarded Covenant Health an “A+” credit rating, upgrading our previous “A” rating. Fitch noted our historically strong operating and financial performance, and our outlook for continued success in the future. We participate in more insurance and managed care plans than anyone else in our region, giving us opportunities to serve our growing population. We are committed to wise use of our resources and to investing those resources in our communities.

For employees, Covenant Health provides comprehensive benefits, including a long history of contributing an employer match to employees’ 401(k) programs. We offer a wide variety of job opportunities and career development programs. Based on employee surveys, Forbes has named Covenant Health among America’s top employers for three years in a row, in the categories of best employers, best employers for diversity and best employers for women. Becker’s Hospital Review has named Covenant Health among the top 150 places to work in healthcare in the U.S.

Our Pledge of Excellence gives us opportunities to achieve the highest levels of service as we fulfill our mission of improving the quality of life in our region. As we continue to put our patients first and strive for excellence in everything we do, we want Covenant Health to be your first and best choice for healthcare. You can count on Covenant Health.
