Covenant Health CIO Earns National Recognition

Knoxville, Tenn. – May 2023Mike Ward, senior vice president and chief information officer of Covenant Health, was recognized on Becker’s Hospital Review’s 2023 list of “113 Hospital and Health System CIOs to Know.” Ward has been in his role since 2003.

Becker’s Hospital Review, a national publication focusing on hospital business news for healthcare executives, notes that chief information officers included on this list “are driving technology and health IT initiatives across the nation.”

Ward manages the IT infrastructure for Covenant Health, which encompasses nine acute-care facilities; dozens of specialty clinics for cancer care, rehabilitation and behavioral health centers, over 80 physician clinics and a local data center. He is also the primary leader in the health system’s cybersecurity efforts and follows the latest technology and security trends.

Ward has also played an instrumental role in implementing new telehealth services across Covenant Health, most recently including virtual urgent care and advanced care at home. These initiatives all enable patients to receive more care from the comfort of their home. His leadership has resulted in the health system earning several IT awards from national organizations for the positive impact the technology has on patient experience and medical outcomes.
