Casey Drake, RN, Recognized with DAISY Award

A nurse at Parkwest Medical Center was honored today with The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s program to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day. The DAISY Award was established in 1999 by the family of a patient who had received extraordinary care and compassion from his nurses during his final days. Congratulations to Casey, an RN, on 5 Riverstone for being recognized with the DAISY award. Casey was nominated by a patient for providing excellent bedside nursing care and for being an advocate for her patient.

“Casey always went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable and my needs were met. She was an important advocate between the physicians and me. She checked in with me on arriving for her shift and to make sure I was okay and if I needed anything before she left her shift. She made me feel so safe and well-taken care of during my stay. I was having difficulty swallowing and breathing. She immediately started asking questions. We thought it was allergies. She called the physician to see if he would give some allergy medicine because I have allergy issues sometimes.

I remember having this issue and with my throat before and realized what was going on. I immediately went to the door of my room and saw her in the hallway. I told her my throat was closing up. She calmly said go lay back down and I will get you help. I went back to my bed and only seconds later the medical response team was in my room along with Casey. I was having an anaphylactic reaction to red dye. They immediately started Benadryl and steroids. If Casey had not reacted quickly, the results would not have been good.

She knows her job very well and does it very well. Her patients are number one as they should be. She is sincere about her patients and it shows. You are very blessed to have her working at your hospital.

Casey certainly is my hero. I have not been treated like this in any hospital I have ever been in. She made my stay so much better.”

Nurses may be nominated by patients, families, and colleagues, and they are chosen by a committee at Parkwest Medical Center to receive The DAISY Award. To nominate a nurse today visit www.TreatedWell.com/DAISY.
