Building Communities Together

At Covenant Health, we consider it a privilege and a high calling to care for the patients and families who come to our member organizations for care. As our Pledge of Excellence states, we are committed to putting our patients first and striving for excellence in everything we do. As a not-for-profit health system and the area’s largest employer, we are also committed to servant leadership in the communities where our member organizations are located.

As events have transpired across our country over the past several weeks, I want to share some personal thoughts with you:

I believe that every person is made in the image of a loving Creator who cares deeply about our world. It is my commitment that Covenant Health and all who represent the health system will respect the God-given dignity of every individual, and we will stand against racism and prejudice that demeans the worth of any human being. We recognize and value the diversity of our patients, employees and communities – indeed, we benefit significantly from different experiences and perspectives as we work together for the greater good.

Beyond the walls of our healthcare facilities, I am proud that Covenant Health supports and partners with numerous community organizations which stand for justice and inclusiveness, which provide safe, healthy environments for youth recreation and learning, and which offer education and other opportunities for the advancement of all people. Among these are Boys & Girls Clubs, The Change Center, Emerald Youth Foundation, The First Tee of Greater Knoxville, the Great Schools Partnership, Project Grad, United Way and Knoxville Area Urban League’s Shoes for School program.

Our mission at Covenant Health is to improve the quality of life through better health. Our goal is healing and wholeness, whether we are talking about an individual’s physical and mental health or the health of our entire region. As we work to fulfill this mission, we will listen to the concerns of our neighbors, seek to understand important issues and complex challenges, and strive for reconciliation and collaboration among all people, so that we may build strong and healthy communities together.
