VanderSteeg Named to National List of Nonprofit Hospital and Health System CEOs

Posted on December 25, 2017

Jim VanderSteeg, president and CEO of Covenant Health, has been named to a national list of “183 Nonprofit Hospital and Health System CEOS to Know,” published by Becker’s Hospital Review. The list appears annually in the healthcare magazine, which covers business news for hospital and health system executives.

According to Becker’s, the men and women on the list lead some of the largest and most successful nonprofit healthcare organizations in the country. The Becker’s Healthcare editorial team accepted nominations and selected leaders for the list.

Becker’s noted that after VanderSteeg assumed his CEO role in 2016, he subsequently revised and expanded Covenant Health’s vision statement and created a new pledge of excellence for all employees, physicians, board members and volunteers. He developed and implemented a CEO communications initiative that includes written articles, videos, informational meetings and roundtable discussions with employees and physicians. The publication also noted that Forbes named Covenant Health as one of “America’s Best Employers” in 2016 and 2017.

Jay Fitzsimmons, chairman of the Covenant Health board of directors, extended congratulations to VanderSteeg on the board’s behalf “for being recognized as one of the outstanding health system leaders in the nation.”

Covenant Health is a community-owned health system that provides comprehensive health services in Tennessee. The Knoxville area’s largest private employer, Covenant Health includes 10 hospitals and numerous outpatient services and clinics. The health system also includes specialty providers of behavioral, oncology and rehabilitation services, along with home care, physician clinics and community wellness and outreach programs. Covenant Health has more than 10,000 employees and affiliated physicians, and the health system is recognized regionally and nationally for quality and patient satisfaction.

VanderSteeg joined the health system in 2007 and served as executive vice president of operations prior to being named CEO.
