- About Us
Just a few weeks ago I shared with you that Forbes magazine named Covenant Health to its 2018 list of America’s Best Employers for Diversity. Now, just a few weeks later, I am pleased to announce that our health system has received another Forbes designation for this year: we are ranked #44 in the magazine’s first-ever list of Best Employers for Women. Covenant Health is one of just nine Tennessee companies to make the national list of 300 organizations representing all sectors of business and industry.
As with our three previous Forbes designations (we also received Top Employer designations in 2016 and 2017), the Forbes ranking is based on a survey of workers at businesses across the country with at least 1,000 employees. Female respondents were asked about factors such as parental leave, discrimination and pay equity. The final list ranked the employers that received the most recommendations and which have the most gender-diverse boards and executive leadership.
At Covenant Health, as in many healthcare organizations, a large percentage of our employees are women. Our current workforce is 76 percent female, and women hold nearly half of our senior leadership positions. Their compassion, talent and expertise are visible at every level of our organization, from direct patient care to departmental managers, senior leaders and on our board of directors. Covenant Health is fortunate to have dedicated women working and leading throughout our health system, and I am grateful for their contributions to our success.
Soon after the Forbes designation, U.S. News and World Report published its annual Best Hospitals listing. In this year’s edition, Parkwest Medical Center is among the top 10 hospitals in Tennessee, ranked at #8, with High Performance recognition in several specialty areas. Methodist Medical Center and Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System also received High Performance accolades in specific specialties.
We do not submit applications or nominations for these designations, so it is certainly gratifying to receive recognition – but the honors are not the true measures of Covenant Health’s success. As I mentioned in the very first edition of this blog, I pledge that our “Full Circle” will always begin and end with our most important priorities: putting our patients and communities first, and excellence in everything we do. That means striving for the best medical outcomes and the highest levels of patient care and satisfaction. I am grateful for the accolades and awards we earn along the way – but I am most grateful for the opportunity to work alongside my Covenant Health colleagues to make a difference in our region’s health and quality of life. That is the greatest reward of all.
