Log in to My Covenant HealthA nurse at Parkwest Medical Center were honored recently with The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. This award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s program to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day. The DAISY Award was established in 1999 by the family of a patient who had received extraordinary care and compassion from his nurses during his final days.
Congratulations to Carmen, a nurse in the Childbirth Center, for being recognized with the DAISY award. Candace was nominated by a patient who appreciated her commitment during a tough delivery. Read her nomination below:
“Carmen checked on me throughout my pregnancy as an acquaintance from college and thankfully happened to be working the day that I had my emergency c-section. At 35 weeks and 5 days, I was evidently sick and had no idea. I was sent by my doctor to the labor and delivery triage to be checked out. I learned that I would having my baby that day. I was obviously unprepared and only had the clothes I was wearing with me.
As soon as Carmen heard that I was checking in, she joined my team and never left my side unless she had to check on her other patients. She is knowledgeable and calmly explained everything that was happening to make sure that I felt like a part of the team and wasn’t just being moved around from place to place. She literally held my hand and I cried and she listened to my worries. She also sat with me as I was being but under anesthesia as my husband wasn’t allowed back due to the severity of my case.
She was my comfort during the scariest time of my life. She advocated for me and took care of every small need that I had. I could go on and on and list every detail. Her positivity and knowledge made me feel safe and confident the entire time during my week long stay and I am still here to tell my story and I love my sweet baby. There are no words I could say or enough money in the world that I could give her to ever repay her back for the favor of a lifetime and what she did for me.”
