Celebrating 20 Years with the Biggest and Best Show Yet

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the fine art show, Artsclamation!, which benefits Peninsula, a division of Parkwest Medical Center. Since its beginnings, the annual art sale and fundraiser has provided significant funds to help meet the needs of Peninsula patients, including providing vans for outpatient transportation, recreational areas for hospital patients and transitional medications for inpatients at discharge.

Funds generated through t he 2021 art sale will enhance patient care programs, provide for improved treatment, and support the continued counseling and therapy services offered at Peninsula Hospital and the Peninsula outpatient clinics across our region. “Peninsula’s team of therapists and clinicians are so grateful to the artists and patrons who support this event,” says Elizabeth Clary, BSN, RN, MHA, Peninsula’s vice president of behavioral health. “It is energizing when the community gets together to rally around mental health in a positive way.”

Choose Your Experience

This year, Artsclamation! returns to its in-person format at a new location. The event will take place at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Knoxville. Attendeeswill also have the option to attend a virtual show featuring online exclusives from six artists. Additionally, several artists participating in the main show will showcase other works through the virtual platform. The virtual show will run from Nov. 1 through Dec. 6. An Abundance of Artwork

This year’s show will nearly double in size from the 2019 show, thanks to a new location and more room for displays. Forty-five artists will come together to create the largest Artsclamation! show yet. Artwork will include paintings, photographs, sculptures, jewelry, pottery, fiber art, digital art and 2-D mixed media. The featured artist, Larry Cole of Knoxville, is an oil painter who focuses on an abstract expressionist approach. A retired banker, his works have been featured in Knoxville, Nashville and Chattanooga areas, in addition to growing recognition in the Southeast region of the country. His featured piece, “Off Stage,” will be available for sale during a private showing on Dec. 3, with all proceeds benefiting Peninsula. Artwork created by over 25 mental health patients in Peninsula Recovery Education Center’s therapeutic programs also will be featured at Artsclamation! Therapists in the recovery education program work with patientsto aid the emotional healing process through creative expression. Art allows patients to relax, and serves as a diversion from intrusive or troubling thoughts and feelings. Some examples of this year’s showcased artwork will include paintings, drawings, jewelry, hand- made journals and more.

Show Support for Mental Health

The event also raises awareness of mental health issues across East Tennessee. One in four East Tennesseans suffers from mental illness. There is a significant gap in funding for
behavioral and mental health services. The funds from this event allow Peninsula to reduce that gap and continue to provide care through effective, innovative and caring mental health
services in inpatient and outpatient locations. Over the last 19 years, supporters of Artsclamation! have provided almost $1 million toward Peninsula’s mission to help people recover from mental health disorders and dependencies so they may lead healthy and productive lives.

Changing Lives in the Community

Offering both inpatient and outpatient services for children, adolescents and adults, Peninsula is a leader in the changing healthcare environment. The hospital is located in Blount County,with outpatient centers in Knox, Blount, Loudon and Sevier Counties. Additionally, Peninsula offers care specifically designed for seniors who have co-existing psychiatric and medical
conditions at the Senior Behavioral Center located at Parkwest Medical Center. Peninsula is truly committed to improving the health of the people and communities it serves.

Featured Artist

A native of Tennessee, Larry studied art and business at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. In his early studio work at UT, Larry drew inspiration from the painting techniques of his nationally known professors, C. Kermit Ewing and Carl Sublett. Their influence helped develop Larry’s abstract expressionist approach to his real-world subjects. Larry subsequently chose a
career in banking but maintained a lifelong interest in painting.

After a 33 -year career and earning an MBA, Larry retired to pursue painting full time. He eventually opened a studio and gallery which he owned for several years in the Bearden Arts
District near downtown Knoxville. He currently works from his new studio on his property in West Knoxville, where he continues to explore varying painting techniques and subjects.
Larry’s works have been showcased in solo and group exhibits in the Knoxville, Nashville and Chattanooga areas. His works continue to gain ever-increasing recognition as he accelerates participation in events throughout the Southeast. In addition to public exhibitions and engagements, he enjoys the patronage of a number of devoted private and corporate collectors.
