10-Digit Dialing

Beginning October 24, 2021, the Federal Communications Commission is mandating that callers must dial 10-digits (area code + telephone number) for all local calls in the 865 area code. Below you will find answers to frequently asked questions.

Frequently Asked Questions

It is a federal mandate from the Federal Communications Commission. The 865 area code is one of 82 area codes being affected across 35 states. As a result, any calls made to an 865 number will require you to dial the area code, even if you are in the same area.

Everyone in the 865 area or trying to make calls to the 865 area is affected by this change.

If your call does not go through, please ensure you are dialing the 865 area code. Failure to do so will result in a pulsing tone, similar to a busy tone.

Yes. Dialing 865 before the fax number will be necessary to complete the fax.

Patients dialing out to their families will need to dial 9+865 first. Family members, former patients or anyone interested in contacting Covenant Health facilities and outpatient locations located in the 865 area code will be required to dial 865 before the number. When faxing a document, dialing 865 first will be necessary.

There is no cost associated.
