The anticipation of a baby can be an exciting and challenging time in your life. Teddy Bear University wants to assist you in obtaining the knowledge, skills and confidence necessary to meet these challenges. Attending any or all of the following classes will help you prepare for the birth of your child.
Breastfeeding
Take this class in your 7th or early 8th month.
Learn breastfeeding basics such as how to get started, correct positioning and technique, tips for returning to work, and an overview of breast pumps. Fathers-to-be are encouraged to attend! Fee: $25 (Breastfeeding book included.)

January 25, February 22, March 7 and 21, April 4 and 18, May 9 and 30, June 27, July 25, August 8 and 29, September 26, October 24, November 7 and 28 and December 5.
Sunday Afternoons (2:30 - 5:30 pm):
January 8, February 12, June 10, July 15, September 9 and October 14.
Sibling Class
Targeted for siblings ages 4 –10
This class is designed to include brothers and sisters in the excitement surrounding the birth of a new sibling. We promote family bonding to help reduce jealous feelings. A tour of the birthing facility is included in this class. A parent must stay with the child. Please indicate the number of children and parents attending. Fee: $10 per child

February 19, April 1, June 3, August 26, October 7 and December 2.
Birth and Babies Today
Begin this series during your 6th or 7th month.
This multi-week series covers topics including variations of labor and birth, breathing and relaxation, tips for your support person, pain relief and care for the new mom and baby. Recommended for first-time parents. A tour of Childbirth Center is included. Fee: $75

Tuesday Five Week Series: 6:30 – 9 pm

Sunday Four Week Series: 2:30 – 5:30 pm
January 15, March 4, April 15, July 29 and October 28
Super Saturday Class
Take this in your 7th or early 8th month.
This class combines the information from the Birth and Babies Today series into an all-day Saturday class. A good option as a refresher course or for those who would have difficulty attending five weekly sessions. (Not recommended for first-time parents.) A tour of Childbirth Center is included. Fee: $75

January 21, February 18, March 17, April 21, May 19, June 9, July 21, August 18, September 8, October 20, November 17 and December 8.
Infant and Prenatal Partner Massage
Learn and practice massage techniques that alleviate the principal complaints of pregnancy and labor. Participants will also see how to perform infant massage and learn the benefits of massage for a new baby. This class is taught by a certified massage therapist and includes practice time and mommy massage. Fee: $30 per couple

January 14, March 31, May 5, July 7, September 22 and November 10.
Infant and Child CPR
American Heart Association certified instructors teach parents how to effectively perform the step of cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the removal of airway obstruction for infants and children in our Family and Friends CRP Course. Keeping your home safe for little ones is also covered. This class does not provide certification in CPR. Fee: $25 per person

January 5 and 26, February 9, March 29, April 12 and 26, May 10 and 24, June 7, July 12 and 26, August 9 and 23, September 6, October 11 and 25 and November 8 and 29.
Sunday Afternoons (2:30 - 5:30 pm):
February 26, March 11 (in Classrooms 1 & 2), June 24, September 23 and December 9.

If delivering at Parkwest, the expectant mother and her support person will need to make an appointment with our pre-admission nurse at (865) 373-4090. Pre-admission appointments take place at 36 weeks of gestation or later and will include a tour of the Childbirth Center.
