Methodist Senior Connection invites area seniors to stop by its office in Oak Ridge Mall for Medicare counseling and foot screenings in February. There is no charge for either service, according to Lynne Burchell, Methodist Senior Connection manager.

Burchell will be on hand Friday, Feb. 11 from 9 a.m. - 12 noon to answer seniors' questions about Medicare bills and paper work. Rural Legal Services, which provides free legal assistance for people in lower income groups, trained Burchell and several of the center's volunteers in Medicare counseling and supplies backup expertise as needed.

Appointments are required and may be made by calling (865) 481-1811 before Feb. 11.

James A. Engblom, D.P.M., a podiatrist on the Methodist Medical Center staff, will offer foot screenings on Tuesday, Feb. 22 from 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. at Methodist Senior Connection. An appointment is not necessary.

Engblom received a doctor of podiatric medicine degree from the Pennsylvania College of Podiatric Medicine. After completing a residency in podiatric surgery and orthopedics, he established a private practice in Oak Ridge. He is a fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and is board certified in foot surgery. He serves on the board of the Anderson County Chapter of the American Diabetes Association and is a consultant for the International Diabetes Center of Tennessee.

Methodist Senior Connection's regular activities for February include exercise classes, notary service, and blood pressure checks. The 50+ Fitness classes are held from 9-10 a.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and from 5:45-6:45 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. PACE classes for seniors with limited mobility are held from 10:15-11:15 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. PACE and 50+ Fitness classes cost $1 per class and are held in the Methodist Senior Connection exercise room in Oak Ridge Mall.

The center offers notary service and blood pressure checks Mondays - Fridays between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Please call (865) 481-5608 to verify availability of notary services at specific times.
