new drug therapy to treat Type II diabetes mellitus will be the topic of a Women's Center lunch program at the Garden Plaza on Aug. 11. The one-hour event begins at 12 noon with endocrinologist Safwan Hamwi, M.D., as the guest speaker.
There is no charge for the meal or the program, but seating is limited. Reservations are required and may be made by calling Women's Center director Flavia Getty at 481-1828 by Friday, Aug. 6.
Dr. Hamwi, a member of the Methodist Medical Center medical staff, will explain the new drug therapy and discuss insulin resistance. He is associated with the Oak Ridge Diabetes and Endocrinology Center and is a graduate of Aleppo University Faculty of Medicine in Syria.
Hamwi completed an internal medicine residency at Christ Hospital and Medical Center in Oak Lawn, IL, and an endocrinology residency at the University of Illinois in Chicago. He is board certified in internal medicine and is a member of the American Diabetes Association and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists.
