iabetes may cause complications related to the blood vessels, according to Gary Wells, M.D., a nephrologist on the medical staff of Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
What are the implications for patients with these complications? Dr. Wells will answer that question at the next Mall Walkers program. "Complications of Diabetes" is scheduled Thursday, Aug. 5 from 8 a.m.-9 a.m. at Luby's Cafeteria in Oak Ridge Mall. Free blood pressure checks will be offered from 7:30 a.m.-8 a.m.

The guest speaker is board certified in internal medicine and nephrology, which concerns the diagnosis and treatment of kidney disorders. He is a graduate of the Antonomous University of Guadalajara and completed medical clinical training at New York Medical College. He completed an internal medicine residency at St. Vincent's Medical Center in New York and a nephrology fellowship at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He is a member of the American Medical Association.
