avid R. Compton, M.D., will serve a second consecutive year as chief-of-staff at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. New MMC Medical Board officers for 1999-2000 also include William Hall, M.D., vice-chief of staff, and J. Randall Thomas, M.D., secretary/treasurer.

Dr. Compton's duties include acting on behalf of the board as the chief medical officer of the hospital and working in coordination and cooperation with Methodist administration in matters of mutual concern involving the medical center. He also has served as MMC vice chief-of-staff.

A Cookeville native, Compton received his undergraduate degree from Tennessee Technological University and his medical degree from the University of Tennessee Center of the Health Sciences, Memphis. He served a family practice residency at UT Hospital in Knoxville. Compton is board certified in family practice and is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He practices with Oak Ridge Family Practice.

Dr. Hall, M.D., selected for the vice chief-of-staff position, is a native of Atlanta. He received his undergraduate degree in science and biology from Emory University. He graduated from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta and did a general surgery residency and a thoracic surgery residency at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center, San Antonio. Certified in surgery and thoracic surgery, he practices with East Tennessee Cardiovascular Surgery Group, P.C., in Oak Ridge.

Hall is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the Southern Thoracic Surgical Association and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. He is a fellow in the Southeastern Surgical Congress, American College of Cardiology, American College of Chest Physicians and the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Thomas, the new secretary/treasurer, is a Nashville native. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of the South in Sewanee. He graduated from the University of Tennessee, Memphis, College of Medicine, and did his internal medicine residency and oncology/hematology fellowship at the University of Tennessee, Memphis. He practices with Cumberland Oncology & Hematology.

Thomas is board certified in internal medicine, medical oncology and hospice and palliative medicine. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, the American College of Physicians and the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
