inding a favorite place to eat may be hard for some people, but George and Earline Banic have found a place they like, and they are sticking with it. The couple has been eating in the cafeteria at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge every Sunday for the past 30 years.

"We really enjoy eating in the cafeteria on Sundays," said Mrs. Banic. "It has become a tradition for us."

The couple started eating there when one of their friends worked at the hospital on Sundays. The Banics would come to the cafeteria with a group of friends to eat lunch and visit their friend who worked at the hospital. The weekly meal became a 30-year habit for the Banics.

"I don't understand why so many people complain about hospital food being bad," says Mrs. Banic. "I think most people that are in the hospital don't appreciate the food because they're sick."

These days, the Banics frequently eat at the hospital during the week as well as on Sundays. One reason is that the food in the cafeteria meets their pulmonary heart diet (PHD) requirements. The diet consists of foods that are appropriate for current and former pulmonary heart patients.

The Banics' meals at MMC usually include a meat, a starch and a vegetable. One of their favorite meals at the hospital is the Teriyaki chicken.

Mr. Banic moved to Oak Ridge in 1944 from Greenville, Penn. and his future wife moved to this area in 1945. She is a native of Travelers Rest, S.C. The couple married in 1947.
