ort Sanders Sevier Medical Center is sponsoring a children's health and safety fair to be held at the Boys and Girls Club of the Smoky Mountains in Sevierville. The event, called KidFest, will be held on Saturday, August 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

KidFest will feature various activities and participants from within the community that will help teach children basic information about how to stay safe and healthy in a fun, interactive manner. Fitness screenings will be available to measure children's flexibility, endurance, strength, vision, and heart rate. Vision screenings for non-verbal children will also be available. Parents may also have their children's vital information recorded through fingerprint and photograph identification kits that will be completed on site. The event will also feature a doctor and nurse dress-up station where children may dress up in surgical scrubs and learn about a day in the operating room, as well as a KidCare clinic in which children may bring their favorite stuffed animal or doll for "medical" care. Local pediatricians will be on hand to answer questions related to children's health. Other participants will cover topics such as fire safety, nutrition and overall hygiene.

Some of the planned activities include a Kid Fit and Martial Arts demonstration, an accident prevention presentation by the Imaging Services department at Fort Sanders Sevier, a child safety seat inspection and a bike safety rodeo both by the Sevierville Police Department.

The child safety seat inspection will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The bike rodeo will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. To participate in the bike rodeo, parents must bring their child's bike and safety helmet. If the 10:30 a.m. class is full, another class will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

KidFest will also feature appearances by Smoky Joe, the Smokies Baseball mascot, Big Dog, the Big Dog Sportswear mascot, and the Dollywood Foundation's Imagination Express.

The event is targeted to children aged 4 to 13. However, it is open to all ages and to the general public.

Admission is free and parking will be available at and across from the Boys and Girls Club. Participants may register for a door prize of bike safety equipment donated by Shifting Gears. Refreshments will be provided.
