Fort Sanders Parkwest Opens Transitional Care Unit

Fort Sanders Parkwest Medical Center will host a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house on October 30, celebrating the opening of the hospital's Transitional Care Unit (TCU), a new 18-bed patient care area designed to enhance the spectrum of care available to patients and families.

"Our TCU provides a safe alternative discharge option for Parkwest patients, families and doctors," says Jim Burkhart, President and Chief Administrative Officer, Fort Sanders Parkwest and Regional Medical Centers.

Located in a home-like setting on the hospital's second floor, the TCU offers extended sub-acute care services for patients who need skilled nursing services such as tube feedings, therapies or IVs. The TCU is similar to a skilled unit in a nursing home.

The open house will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with the ribbon cutting ceremony scheduled for noon. Free blood pressure screenings, tours of the unit and refreshments will be offered throughout the event. Everyone is welcome. For more information about the TCU at Fort Sanders Parkwest, call 694-5731.
