Dr. Hogan said approximately four million Americans suffer from Alzheimer's disease. However, he said its effects are more widespread, since 19 million Americans have a family member with the disease, and 37 million know someone who has it.
"Most of us forget from time to time, but how can we recognize in ourselves or in our loved ones that a formal assessment might be needed? It's hard to know when the memory loss becomes a source of concern," he said.
Hogan received his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine and completed an internship at Carraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham. He finished his residency in internal medicine and psychiatry at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester, Minn.
A fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, Hogan is board certified in psychiatry and neurology. He has been active in the Tennessee Psychiatric Association,
the American Group Psychotherapy Association and the Atlanta Group Psychotherapy Society.
