Covenant Kids Run
Covenant Kids Run promotes fitness for life
The Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon Kids Run is a fun event for children and allows them the thrill of participating in a big marathon along with mom, dad, other family members and friends.
The Covenant Kids Run is much more than a one-event race. Children walk, jog or exercise an equivalent of 25 miles on their own over the two to three months leading up to the event. On race day, the children run their last mile together, completing the marathon distance of 26.2 miles at the finish line on the 50-yard-line at Neyland Stadium.
Every child who participates is a winner, says Katie Logan, training coordinator at Fort Sanders Health & Fitness Center. “The Covenant Kids Run is an inclusive activity, and the focus is on completion of a fitness goal and not competition,” she says. “Each child who completes a log book and runs or walks their last mile at Neyland Stadium is successful.”
The goal is to promote the good habit of regular exercise at an early age. “Once they begin to exercise regularly, they feel good and they enjoy it. This increases the probability that they will stay active later in life.”
The 2010 Covenant Kids Run will be held on Saturday, March 27 at 6 p.m. at the World’s Fair Park. A kick-off event will be held in January, 2010. More information will be posted closer to the event. Information is also available at www.knoxvillemarathon.com.
