e've been keeping adults and seniors in shape on our Fit & Fun show on Public Television for East Tennessee, and now we're launching a new show just for kids.
Kid Fit & Fun will be a 15-minute statewide exercise show that will get kids up and active while learning how to take care of their health. The show will be underwritten by BUDDY'S bar-b-q and the Covenant Health Information Line. A couple of my guests will be fellow Olympic athletes gold medalist Jeremy Linn (swimming) and silver medalist Charlie Simpkins (track and field). We'll also have younger guests like Phillip Fulmer's girls, Tyler Summit, and other kids from across East Tennessee.
All 30 episodes have been taped. An advisory board and myself have put together lesson plan books for teachers to use in schools.
The show will air at 10 a.m. on Mondays and Thursdays locally on WSKJ/WKOP channels 2 and 15 and be rebroadcast at 1 p.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays. It will be a fun show for kids because I use the "Kid Fit Dance," TaiBo moves, paper plates as weights, soccer drills, and more.
If you would like to find out more about the show and the schedule call the Kid Fit & Fun line at 541-4500 through Covenant Health or look in your local TV listings starting August 23.
Exercise Excuses
When it's too hot or too cold it's tempting to look for easy ways to lose weight and stay in shape. There is no easy way except to have an exercise routine and stay with it. The more you do it, the easier it gets.
Of course, we should take proper precautions when exercising in extreme heat or cold, but your exercise schedule needs to remain fairly consistent.
In any case, when you consider making an excuse not to exercise I hope you'll remember this little poem I came up with.
Excuses, excuses, we make them every day.
To busy, too tired, too stressed,
Exercise?...No Way!
It'll mess up my hair
Make me breathe too hard
I'll just pop this slim pill
Claims it melts away the lard!
And I'll only eat protein and fat
No carbohydrates for me...
And, by golly, I lost 8 pounds!!!
But, I gained back 23.
Well throw out those fad diets
And the thigh cream too.
Eat right and exercise regularly
Is all you have to do!!
Missy Kane's Fit and Fun is broadcast twice a day during the summer. The program airs at 7 a.m. and again at 1 p.m. On WSJK-WKOP TV channels 2 and 15. Low impact/senior days are Tuesdays and Thursdays. Check the schedule for a list of upcoming shows!
