Fort Sanders Therapy Centers Offers Runner’s Screening
Whether you’re a seasoned runner or just taking up the sport to lose those extra winter pounds, Fort Sanders Therapy Centers has a program for you - a runner’s screening and assessment.
The runner’s screening and assessment consists of a complete musculoskeletal evaluation including flexibility, strength, lower quarter biomechanics, and video gait analysis (includes running gait if needed).
During the assessment the evaluator looks for tightness, imbalances and abnormalities. Specific recommendations are made for self-treatments, flexibility, and strengthening exercises, as well as training program suggestions and modifications as needed. A physician referral can be made if clinical treatment or orthoses are indicated.
Phil Bevins, physical therapist, conducts the screenings. He has worked exclusively in outpatient orthopedic settings and is certified as a strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He specializes in lower-extremity biomechanics, especially related to overuse injuries commonly seen in runners and other athletes.
Bevins is an avid runner and triathlete and has competed in the Marine Corps Marathon and the Hammerhead Half-Ironman Triathalon.
“Convenience was the driving force behind offering a runner’s screening at Fort Sanders Therapy Centers,” said Bevins. “This is a service that is needed for all athletes across East Tennessee to increase performance and identify problems before they become injuries,” he said.
The runner’s screening is offered at Fort Sanders Therapy Center on the Fort Sanders West campus. A physician referral is not necessary for this individualized program. A regular screening costs $35 and an extended screening is $50. For additional information or to schedule a screening, please call 531-5710.
Fort Sanders Therapy Centers is the largest provider of outpatient rehabilitation services in East Tennessee, with 19 clinics in a nine-county region.
