Covenant Health offers a comprehensive spectrum of care for patients facing cancer and their families. Central to this spectrum of care are the inpatient services delivered at our hospitals, and the outpatient services offered at the Thompson Cancer Survival Center.
Thompson Cancer Survival Center is more than a cancer center - it's a cancer survival center, committed to the community and determined to deliver the most advanced cancer care available. The center is located in downtown Knoxville, with additional clinics in West Knoxville, Oak Ridge and Sevierville. Thompson features state-of-the-art treatments such as TomoTherapy (the center was one of the first in the country to offer this form of digital radiation treatment), and pioneered photodynamic therapy for treatment of Barrett's Esophagus. The Center also offers screening and diagnostic services, potential access to clinical trials, and support services for patients and families.
There are two sides to cancer: treatment, and everything else. A diagnosis of cancer can leave a patient feeling scared and isolated. Here are some of the ways that Covenant Health can help:
Breast Cancer Screenings and Treatment - The Thompson Comprehensive Breast Center offers mammography and other services related to diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer such as core biopsy and breast ultrasound. In addition to Thompson, Breast Centers are available at several convenient Covenant Health locations.
Physician Referral - Need an oncologist (physician specially trained in cancer treatment)? Call our physician referral line, 865-541-4500 or search Covenant Health oncologists.
Clinical Trials - Clinical trials are research studies in which people help healthcare providers find ways to improve health and cancer care. Each study tries to answer scientific questions and to find better ways to prevent, diagnose, or treat cancer.
Genetics Counseling - Thompson Cancer Survival Center's social services will review your family and personal medical histories to determine your possibility of contracting certain types of cancer based on family history. To learn more, go to Thompson Cancer Survival Center Genetic Counseling.
Lodging and Accommodations - To help ease the burden of patients and families traveling to the Knoxville area for long-term treatment, Covenant Health offers two lodging options: the Fellowship Center at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville and Methodist Medical Center's Hospitality Houses in Oak Ridge.
Palliative Care - Helps make patients more comfortable through pain management and other aspects of care. Palliative care can be provided in the hospital setting or in a home setting, such as the care offered by Covenant HomeCare and Hospice.
Patient and Family Services - Cancer touches the entire family, not just the patient. Covenant Health facilities offer support groups, counseling, access to dieticians and medical social workers, specialized therapies for cancer patients, a resource library, and information about community support services.
