Who's In The OR? Typically, the personnel in an Operating Room consist of the surgeon, a physician's assistant, an RN, a surgical technician, and an anesthetist. A "Circulator" RN is charged with caring for the patient's comfort, by repositioning them on the operating table, assisting the anesthetist, doing perioperative charting, and opening supplies for the surgeon. Occasionally other people may be needed, such as X-Ray technicians, nerve monitors, instrument scrub techs, and observing medical students. Family members are not allowed in the OR. Shown in the photo above are Sally Ball, Mary Long, Trish Pennybaker, Cathy Stuffle, and Tina Romines. Different "teams" perform different types of procedures. Currently at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center the teams are: Neuro Orthopedics General Vascular Cardiac Plastics GYN Urology, and ENT (Ear/Nose/Throat) While nurses technically can support any type of procedure, these teams work together to establish a valuable working rapport. The OR can be cool, but several devices keep the patient warm and relaxed on the table. What's In The OR?
