For Total Hip and Knee Replacement
The Joint Replacement Center is one of the first of its kind in our region. We offer a full range of services, from education before to rehabilitation after surgery. Our goal is to help patients be free from pain and return to an active, vital life.

To that end, our physicians, nurses and staff have special training and knowledge in joint replacement care. The medical director, for instance, has completed a fellowship in total joint replacement surgery.

Top technology

Advanced Surgical Technologies and EquipmentParkwest features a special new ultrasonic device known as the ultradrive. Surgeons use it to remove cemented total joints before replacing them with a prosthesis.

This unique instrument is superior to all other technologies available today. It reduces the time needed to perform a procedure - meaning less blood loss and fewer associated risks, such fractures or bone splintering.

Longer lives fuel demand

Hip ReplacementOrthopedic procedures of hip and knee replacements and revisions continue to grow across the country. The demand is expected to continue as our population lives longer than ever.

When is surgery necessary?

Knee ReplacementMajor joints in the body are the hip, knee and shoulder. A joint is where the ends of two bones meet. Cartilage covers these ends and cushions them for smooth, easy movement.

But joint disease such as arthritis causes the cartilage to wear away. The bones become rough and grind together, causing pain and disability.

Pain relief is the main benefit of total joint replacement. To help make such an important decision, patients should fully discuss the procedure with their doctor. It's wise to learn about all possible risks as well as the benefits of the procedure.

Before surgery

Prior to Surgery (Pre-operative)Special patient care includes:
  • Individual consultation with nurse coordinator
  • Personal education packet.
Parkwest has found that well-informed patients often recover faster and have shorter hospital stays. Knowing what to expect, they feel safer going home and returning to a more normal life.

During surgery

During SurgeryParkwest has assembled the best team and technology to help make each procedure as successful as possible:
  • Orthopedic surgeons with a specialty in total joint replacement
  • Special medical expertise in joint revision
  • Dedicated surgical nursing team
  • State-of-the-art sterile environments with the latest technologies, including ultraviolet light hepa filters and/or helmets with hooded gowns
  • Surgical suite designed exclusively for joint replacement
  • Wide array of implants and technologies available to provide top surgical results.

After surgery

After Surgery (Post Operative)Personal attention and service continues with:
  • Specialty nursing care and unit
  • Continuous pain control program administered in conjunction with anesthesia department
  • Physical therapy, inpatient
  • Occupational therapy
  • Individualized discharge planning starting pre-operatively.

Discharge

Rehabilitation and Returning HomeThe healing begins even before a patient leaves Parkwest. A multidisciplinary team - working with the patient - creates a post-hospital rehabilitation plan, which is so important to good health.
