Fort Sanders Foundation

Fort Sanders FoundationFormal philanthropic support of what was then known as Fort Sanders Presbyterian Hospital began in 1954. With the increase in charitable contributions, the Fort Sanders Foundation was established and charged with garnering support for the healthcare programs and services offered by Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, with the first major initiative being the creation and construction of Patricia Neal Rehabilitation Center. Monday, July 01, 2013 - LeConte Medical Center named Most Beautiful Hospital in the U.S.

Soliant Health, a leading specialty healthcare staffing provider and a part of Adecco Group, announced today that LeConte Medical Center located in Sevierville, Tennessee, was named the 2013 Most Beautiful Hospital in the U.S.! Last year the hospital placed third in the competition.

For the fifth year in a row, Soliant Health turned to hospital staff, patients, and supporters to select the top 20 hospitals worthy of “Most Beautiful Hospital in the U.S.” distinction…and they did not disappoint! More than 300 nominations and 100,000 votes later, twenty hospitals rose to the top because of their own honor-worthy characteristics and an incredible amount of support from you!

“We’re honored to have been named the Most Beautiful Hospital in America,” stated Ellen Wilhoit, President/Chief Administrative Officer, LeConte Medical Center. “The beauty at LeConte is more than just this beautiful building – it’s seen daily in the excellent care provided to our patients by our employees, staff, and volunteers.  Our building was designed by our healthcare team and community with the patient and family in mind, creating a warm, inviting, healing atmosphere, utilizing the latest technology, easy access for our patients, and a commitment to outstanding quality.  This creates a wonderful environment that promotes healing.”

The beautiful LeConte Medical Center opened in 2010, and was created with a “mountain modern” theme in mind, trying to respect the beauty in our community and the beautiful Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Many materials used to build the facility were native to our state of Tennessee. LeConte Medical Center was designed with their patients in mind, focusing on patient flow, and ease of access to services. The employees and physicians were instrumental in creating a truly functional work space.

“The aesthetics of a health care facility can indicate that it is well taken care of, but it can also indicate that their patients are too. As a provider of healthcare professionals for hospitals, we realize that aesthetics, along with attention to patients’ needs, are critical to patients' happiness,” said David Alexander, president of Soliant Health. “LeConte Medical Center is a prime example of a facility that recognized this link and made the most of it.”

The medical campus would’ve never come to be if it wasn’t for the support of the community of Sevier County that raised over $10 million dollars to help support the project. That financial support, along with the support of Covenant Health (LeConte’s parent company), helped bring not only a new medical center, but the county’s first cancer care to Sevier County.  Thompson Cancer Survival Center – Sevier is located just down the hill from the medical center. Prior to its opening in 2010 patients had to drive over 40 miles to Knoxville to receive chemotherapy & radiation treatments. The community support of our mission has also helped LeConte attract additional physicians to Sevier County, expanding the medical services that LeConte is able to provide.

“All of us at Covenant Health are proud of LeConte Medical Center and pleased it has been voted the nation’s most beautiful hospital, a well-deserved distinction,” congratulated Anthony L. Spezia, President and CEO, Covenant Health.  “LeConte's design creates a welcoming environment that supports our most important goal, which is providing excellent care to our patients. We are grateful to the community, which supported the construction of the hospital and continues to support the programs and services that LeConte Medical Center provides to Sevier County. Together we have created a place for healing and hope that will serve generations to come.”
