    50 + Fitness

Current Schedule of 50+ Fitness Classes and Health Screenings
    (Updated: September 2, 2009)

    Inclement Weather Policy

50+ Fitness will follow county school closings with inclement weather. Exception: if schools are opening late due to weather, we will make our decision whether to hold classes early that morning and participants should call the 50+ Fitness office after 8am at 374-0457.

It's not about AGE, it's about FITNESS!

We are not like the generations before us: we are generations of movement and we keep moving! Some of us wore bobby socks and went to sock hops. Some of us wore peace signs and carried signs. Some of us did the hustle and now are right in the middle of the bustle. Others of us danced with soul train and now we weight train.

If you can relate to any of this, you are middle age and beyond and should exercise with attitude. 50+Fitness is for you. We offer various classes that address the needs of mature individuals. We know that our knees or hips can't take pounding anymore, but we still want a moderate to hard workout to keep us strong and healthy.

At 50+Fitness we understand that health and fitness is not about age, but about training. We offer classes that differ in intensity to meet the different fitness needs of people who are 50 years and older. We focus on low-impact cardio moves; muscular resistance training and flexibility. We have advanced classes for the people who want and are able to push hard and then we have low intensity classes for those who need less.

You know the benefits of exercise. So, why not try one or all of our classes? The price is right ($3/class for anyone under 50 years of age. $2/class for anyone 50 and older. Household couples have discount rates as well. Ask the instructors for that special pricing) and there is no contract with multiple locations, and quality instructors.

    Class Descriptions

Advanced Cardio is a low impact aerobic class but the level of intensity is increased to meet the needs of those who need a more strenuous workout. Class participants must be able to go to the floor for some of the exercises. Beginners are encouraged to participate, but most go at “their own pace” until their fitness levels have improved. Hand weights, and personal mats needed.

Intermediate Cardio is a low impact aerobic class with the intensity ranging from easy to moderate. During the cardio portion of the class, participants will move freely around the room. During the muscular resistance portion of the class, participants will use chairs. This class is recommended for those who cannot go to the floor easily, but want a moderately intense workout. Hand weights are needed.

Sit’B Fit is a class designed for individuals who are limited physically. This class primarily works on improving balance, increasing stamina, muscular resistance and flexibility. It is a safe and effective workout for anyone. The majority of the class is performed sitting in or utilizing chairs.

50+ Body Sculpting: this class utilizes weight training and calisthentics to improve muscular tone and endurance. Participants must be able to go to the floor. Hand weights and mats are needed.

50+ Pilates: is our version of a Pilates style class modified to work best for middle age and beyond. This class focuses on muscular resistance and flexibility. Participants must be able to go to the floor. Personal mat needed.

    Coming January 2010
50+ walk/Mind & Body: we use walking for our cardio workout and then move into a variety of exercises which work on relieving stress and increasing muscular tone and flexibility. Chairs will be used rather than mats so participants do not have to go to the floor.
